Emilio Nsue Biography: Early Life

Emilio Nsue’s biography tells us all we need to know about him. López as he is known widely is a professional footballer currently playing for CF Intercity, a Primera Federación club. He was born in Spain and is the all-time top scorer for the African team of Equatorial Guinea, of which he is also the captain.

Nsue was born in Spain Palma, Majorca to a Spanish mother and an Equatoguinean father. He was eligible to represent both Spain and Equatorial Guinea at the international level.

In 2013, he made his senior international debut for Equatorial Guinea, his father’s country, and went on to represent them at three Africa Cup of Nations tournaments in 2015, 2021, and 2023.

Career Stats

Mallorca

Alberto Nsue started his football career in the youth system of Mallorca as a forward. He made his professional debut for the club in a 1-1 draw against Villarreal in February 2008.

He was loaned to Castellón for the 2008-09 season, where he scored twice in a 4-1 win at home to Levante. In 2009, he joined Real Sociedad on loan, helping the team return to La Liga.

Nsue returned to Mallorca for the 2010-11 season and became a regular starter, scoring four goals in 38 league games. In the 2011-12 season, Nsue played as an attacking right-back and helped Mallorca rank eighth.

Middlesbrough

Emilio Nsue signed with Middlesbrough in 2014 and played much of his second season at right-back. He played 37 of 46 league games in 2015-16 as Middlesbrough achieved automatic promotion to the Premier League. However, he was later dropped for Antonio Barragán after playing the first three games in the topflight undefeated.

Birmingham City

In January 2017, Nsue signed a contract with Birmingham City for three and a half years for an undisclosed transfer fee.

He played his debut match on 28 January and appeared in every match thereafter. Nsue was described as “single-handedly trying to drag Blues up the pitch” in the final fixture of the season. He scored his only goal of the campaign against Queens Park Rangers on 18 February.

However, he was no longer a first choice in the 2017-18 side, and Steve Cotterill preferred the more defensive Maxime Colin at right-back. In the January 2018 transfer window, Nsue was allowed to leave.

Cyprus

In January 2018, Nsue, a footballer, signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with APOEL, the champions of the Cypriot First Division. He scored his first goal during his debut match on 14 January. Nsue made 26 appearances for the team in the league over the next 13 months.

However, a dispute with manager Paolo Tramezzani led to his contract being terminated. After a season with Apollon Limassol, Nsue returned to APOEL in September 2020 on a one-year contract.

Tuzla City

Emilio Nsue had been a free agent after leaving APOEL at the end of the 2020-21 season. On 9th February 2022, he signed for Bosnian Premier League team Tuzla City until the end of the season.

He made his debut for the club on 26th February, coming on as a substitute in the second half of a 1-1 draw against city rivals, Sloboda.

On 12th March 2022, he scored his first goal for Tuzla City in his fourth appearance in a 2-1 away win over Velež Mostar in the Bosnian Premier League. However, only two months after joining the club, Nsue left Tuzla City in April 2022.

Intercity

On June 17th, 2022, Nsue signed a two-year contract, becoming the first signing of Intercity for the 2022-23 season.

Spain

Emilio Nsue played for Spain’s under-17, under-19, and under-21 teams. He got injured during the under-17 European Championships and couldn’t participate in the rest of the finals.

Spain won the under-19 European Championships in 2007 with Nsue starting all five matches. In 2009, Nsue scored two goals in a crucial match that helped Spain qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

He played in two of the three group-stage matches and scored twice in an 8–0 win against Tahiti. Nsue made his under-21 debut in 2009, and he was part of the 2011 European title-winning squad.

Equatorial Guinea
