Mohammed Kudus Biography

Mohammed Kudus is a Ghanaian professional footballer whose preferred foot is left, plays as a right winger (RW), central attacking midfielder (CAM), and even as a center forward (CF) at times.

On the 2nd of August 2000 a star was born in Nima Accra, Ghana called Mohammed Kudus popularly known as Mo Kudus or the star boy of Ghana football.

He currently plays for premier league club West Ham United, which won the 2022-2023 Europa Conference League and the Ghana national team.

Mohammed Kudus is 23 years old, height 175cm, market value is $43m, and wears the number 14 jersey for his club and 20 for the Ghana national team.

Before joining his current English club, West Ham United, Mohammed played previously for FC Nordsjælland and Ajax.

Mohammed Kudus’ birth was a blessing to Mrs. Suleman Mariame (mother) and Mr. Suleman Idris Kudus (father). He has three other siblings with whom he grew up with.

Mohammed Kudus’ mum was fully active in his growth as a kid same as his grandmother because these two wonderful mothers raised him.

Kudus’ grandmother and mother were foodstuffs sellers in the Nima market which is one of the vibrant markets in the capital Accra, Ghana. They sold foodstuffs like rice, beans, ground pepper, gari, and many more in the market.

The sales of foodstuffs were their means of survival, and this was what they did to take care of Kudus and his siblings. Mohammed Kudus was raised in a Muslim community full of Hausa and Twi-speaking people, Nima to be precise.

Nima is a Zongo community known for aggressiveness. Despite being raised in a noisy environment Mohammed Kudus is always humble and his grandmother and mother are always cautious of the friends around him.

Mohammed Kudus is a proud Muslim and always makes sure he portrays the goodwill of Allah, love, and kindness by praying and showing love to people in need. Kudus is a typical Hausa.

Mohammed Kudus Football Journey

Mohammed Kudus’ love for football started at a very young age in Nima. Nima is known for great talent and the love for football has always been in them.

So, he started playing small posts and this is a common game in the Ghanaian community. A four-aside or three-aside football where a small goalpost is erected for goal scoring.

Mohammed Kudus’ talent was seen by everyone around him because, with his left foot, he was the small magician who did wonders with the ball and everyone around him adored him for his talent.

This motivated his mother and grandmother, and they were very supportive of his career. Kudus’ mum allows him to train and play with the boys.

Strong Tower FC was the first club to take an interest in his talent and later Dynamic Hero’s Football Academy all in Nima Accra, Ghana.

Mohammed Kudus Rise to Right to Dream

He was scouted at the age of 10 from Nima to join Right to Dream Academy in the Eastern Region of Ghana. Right to Dream is a youth football association academy that is dedicated to expanding people’s understanding of excellence and nurturing through football.

Mohammed Kudus is a music enthusiast and never shy of letting his feelings out for the kind of music he loves and his favorite Ghanaian music artist that motivates him more.

Livingstone Etse Setakla (1GAD) a Ghanaian Afropop, reggae, and dancehall musician who hails from the Volta region is his favorite Ghanaian artist and he can sing his songs word for word.

Stonebwoy was present at the London Stadium to support Kudus during a home match against Newcastle United in a 2-2 draw where he predicted he was going to score 2 goals but Kudus, later on, scored just one goal which was his first premier league goal on the 8th of October 2023.

Time on Ghana National Team

We have different ways of becoming a citizen of Ghana, but Mohammed Kudus is a citizen by birth and holds no allegiance to any other country. He has always pledged to defend and protect the good of Ghana.

Mohammed Kudus has always protected and defended the name of Ghana on every platform and level his service is needed.

Starting from his youth days he represented Ghana under 17, featured 4 times, and scored twice in 2017. His next call-up was in 2017 for the Ghana U20. He featured 3 times with no goal to his name at that level.

Mohammed Kudus’ first call-up to the national team (Black Star) was in 2019 -till now he has become a regular call-up player in the black star squad.

He has featured 28 times for Ghana and scored 9 times already of which two of his goals were against South Korea in the 2022 FIFA World Cup where Ghana won by 3-2 and he was the man of the match for that game.

Mohammed Kudus’ two goals against South Korea made him the first Ghanaian to score two goals in a single FIFA World Cup match and the second youngest African player to score two goals in a single FIFA World Cup game after Ahmed Musa the former Super Eagles Captain in a game between Nigeria and Argentina.

– In 2023, Mohammed Kudus was named the Footballer of the Year in Ghana by the Ghana Football Awards.
– In 2022, Mohammed Kudus was named the Sports Personality of the Year by SWAG.
– In 2021 and 2022, Mohammed Kudus was named the Foreign Footballer of the Year by SWAG.
– In 2020, he was named in the CAF Youth Team of the Year by IFFHS.
– In 2022, he was named in the Men’s CAF Team of the Year by IFFHS.
– Mohammed Kudus was named in the Eredivisie Team of the Month for September 2020, May 2021, September 2022, and February 2023 during his time at Ajax.
– Mohammed Kudus won the Eredivisie with Ajax in the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 seasons. He also won the KNVB Cup in the 2020-21 season with Ajax.

-Kudus won the West Ham United Goal of the season award in the 2023-2024 season and the EUFA Europa League Goal of the season also 2023-2024 season.

Mohammed Kudus Move to West Ham United

On August 27, 2023, Mohammed Kudus signed a five-year deal with the premier league club West Ham United for a reported fee of €44.5m(£38m) plus add-ons.

He became the third Ghanaian footballer to play for West Ham after leaving Ajax, following in the footsteps of John Paintsil and Andre Dede Ayew.

On the day of signing, his two elder brothers and mother were present. Kudus scored his first goal for the club with a brace in a Europa group stage match against Serbian team Bačka Topola in a 3-1 win on September 21.

He made his Premier League debut against Luton Town on September 1, 2023, in a 2-1 away victory.

His first Premier League goal came in a 2-2 draw against Newcastle United on October 9, 2023, at the London stadium. Furthermore, his scissor-kick goal against Brentford in a 3-2 defeat on November 4 was nominated for the goal of the month in November.

Time In Nordsjælland

In 2018 Mohammed Kudus and two of his teammates from Right to Dream Academy, Gideon Mensah who plays for the Ghana national team, and Auxerre in France, and Ibrahim Sadiq who only featured for Ghana under 17 and 20 teams.

It is important to note that Ibrahim Sadiq now plays his club football with AZ Alkmaar in the Netherlands and arrived at the Danish club Nordsjælland as part of the co-founder relationship between these two clubs.

After his 18th birthday, Kudus made his debut for Nordsjællandin a 2-0 defeat against Brøndby IF. With his debut kudus became the ninth youngest starlet to make his debut in the history of the club.

Mohammed Kudus played for Nordsjælland from July 2018 to July 2020 and made 55 appearances, netted 14 times for the club.

Mohammed Kudus Stay at Ajax

Mohammed Kudus’ performances and dedication to the club and country made it possible for Eredivisie club Ajax to sign him for €9m on a five-year contract on the 16th of July 2020. He made his official debut for the club on 20th September in a league match against RKC Waalwijk.

Mohammed Kudus’ debut in the UEFA Champions League was against Liverpool on the 21st of October 2020 where he was subbed off after playing just six minutes due to a meniscus injury suffered, unfortunately, kudus was out for several months.

The 2022-23 season saw Kudus score his first Champions League goal in a 4-0 win over Rangers on the 7th of September 2022.

19th of February 2023 was a sad day for Mohammed Kudus when he paid tribute to his fellow national teammate Christian Atsu who lost his life in the Turkey-Syria earthquake with a 84th minute Free-kick against Sparta Rotterdam removing his jersey to display a white shirt that read “RIP Atsu”.

The audience in the stadium sympathizes with him including the referee who refused to give him a yellow card for removing his jersey.

Mohammed Kudus was with Ajax from July 2020 to August 2023 made 5 appearances and netted 5 times for Jong Ajax, 87 appearances, and scored 27 times for Ajax.

One of his unforgettable moments at Ajax was his last game in the 2023-2024 Europa League play-off first-leg qualifier against Ludogorets in Bulgaria where he scored a hat-trick in a 4-1 victory on the 24th of August.
